Meghan Augur takes the reigns as #JVFHockey Head Coach

Updated: Oct 24

New Haven -- The James Vick Foundation is pleased to announce that Meghan Augur has accepted the position of Head Coach for JVF Field Hockey!

Entering her third year with the program, the North Branford native assumes the role of Field Hockey chief at a pivotal moment in the program's history.

For the last two years, "Coach Meg" served as the Associate Head Coach alongside the beloved Coach Kya O'Donnell. The pair worked together to make JVF Field Hockey one of the most competitive club teams in the Northeast region, presiding over the stunning rise of a program that does not believe in the pay to play model.

Expectations have now been elevated after a successful 2023 season, and the team set to join Coach Meg for the 2024 campaign could be the most physically talented group the program has ever seen.

The JVF teams will practice, host the Yale Series, travel to Washington DC to compete in a special event, and engage in tournaments over the course of the season including college showcases.

Coach Meg took some time earlier this week to reflect upon her appointment, the direction of the program, and her expectations this upcoming season.

JVF: How do you feel about taking over a program you have helped mold for two years?

MA: "I am excited, it's going to be nice to put it all together, when we first started, we were nowhere near where we are now, so taking over at a point in which we are more established is something that is intriguing, and should make for a great season" JVF: Last year's team made history, and was considered one of the greatest JVF teams of all time, how do you follow that up after losing a deep and talented senior class as well the head coach?

MA: "We are bringing back a core group of girls that were very impactful players for us last year, our coaching staff has improved and grown as well. Every single member of this program coming back has grown so much in the last year, we also have an immensely talented incoming recruiting class. The combination of the two should yield continued success for the ball club. JVF: So now with an established team, and a program on the rise, what are your goals for the teams and the players? MA: "The overall goal is for the players to grow in a positive and an enriching environment. I want them grow as athletes and as young women in this world. It's so important to create an atmosphere in which the girls can grow as citizens, and Field Hockey players. Our goals this season are bigger than winning and losing. Individual and team growth, having fun, learning to love each other, those objectives are most important."

Coach Meg will now go about assembling the rest of her staff, evaluating athletes, and making roster decisions. JVF Field Hockey will open up winter camp in late January. Any players interested in competing for the JVF Field Hockey program will need to engage in the scholarship selection process immediately. You can find more details right here! 3.
