The 2026 JVF Dragons at the Surf and Sands College Showcase (JVF)
Guilford -- As we conclude our sixth season of JVF Dragons Field Hockey, we are excited to announce the next evolution of our program.
For six seasons, JVF has remained committed to one mission: providing talented student-athletes with opportunities to pursue excellence while removing financial barriers through scholarship support. As our program continues to grow, so too must the way we identify, recruit, and develop the next generation of JVF Dragons.
Scholarship Admissions
Beginning with the 2027 season, JVF Dragons will transition to a scholarship admissions model. Traditional open tryouts will no longer be held. In addition, JVF will no longer accept midseason roster additions. Admission through the scholarship process will be the only pathway to compete for the JVF Dragons during the 2026–2027 season.
Over the past six seasons, we've learned that identifying student-athletes over time, not during a single tryout, creates stronger teams, stronger culture, and a better experience for every athlete involved.
Student-athletes interested in joining JVF Dragons should begin by completing the 2026- 2027 JVF Dragons Scholarship Application.
After reviewing each application, the JVF coaching staff will determine whether to move the applicant forward in the admissions process. Selected applicants will then be evaluated in a live competitive environment whenever possible.
In addition to submitted applications, JVF coaches will continue to identify and recruit prospective student-athletes throughout the late summer and fall season. Athletes who are recruited directly will also complete the scholarship application and participate in the same admissions process.
This approach allows us to evaluate the complete student-athlete over time while ensuring every scholarship recipient is the right fit for the JVF Dragons program.

Athletes accepted into the program are expected to represent JVF as their primary club throughout the scholarship year. To preserve team continuity, culture, and the integrity of the scholarship experience, the JVF Dragons will not permit athletes to compete for another field hockey club while participating in the program.
Training, competing, and growing together as one team allows us to build the chemistry, trust, and culture that define the JVF Dragons experience.
Our Admissions Philosophy
Every application is reviewed holistically because becoming a JVF Dragon is about far more than athletic ability.
We look for student-athletes who demonstrate technical ability, competitiveness, discipline, resilience, leadership, and a genuine desire to improve.
Just as importantly, we evaluate fit. Character, coachability, and commitment are every bit as important as talent.
Throughout the admissions process, we consider how each applicant's mindset, work ethic, attitude, commitment, and personal goals align with the culture and standards that define JVF Dragons.

Looking Ahead
Beginning in 2027, JVF Dragons will field two competitive scholarship teams each year.
The composition of those teams will be determined through the admissions process and will reflect the strength of each applicant pool, roster needs, and the long-term developmental goals of the program. This flexible approach allows JVF to build the strongest possible teams while creating the best experience for our student-athletes.
Student-athletes ages 13 through 17 are encouraged to apply for scholarship consideration. Every application will receive a comprehensive review, and admissions decisions will be based on the overall fit between the applicant and the needs of the program for that season.
Because the recruiting landscape changes significantly during the later years of high school, applicants who are 17 years of age or older should demonstrate a sustained commitment to competitive field hockey with the intention of playing in college.
