The JVF Dragons Launch 2026-2027 scholarship admissions process

Updated: Aug 29

Guilford -- Following another successful year of athlete development and college recruitment, the JVF Dragons have officially opened scholarship admissions for the 2027 field hockey season.

For six seasons, the James Vick Foundation has provided talented student-athletes with access to high-level competition, development, mentorship, and college recruiting support.

Every athlete selected for the JVF Dragons receives a fully funded roster opportunity. JVF families do not pay registration, coaching, training, tournament, or team participation fees.

Scholarship Admissions

Beginning with the 2027 season, admission to the JVF Dragons will be offered exclusively through the program’s scholarship admissions process.

Traditional open tryouts will no longer be held, and JVF will not accept midseason roster additions. Completing the scholarship admissions process will be the only pathway to joining the Dragons for the 2027 season.Over the past six years, we have learned that identifying student-athletes over time, and evaluating them in meaningful competitive environments, creates stronger teams, a healthier culture, and a better developmental experience.

Athletes interested in joining JVF should begin by completing the 2027 JVF Dragons Scholarship Application. After reviewing each application, the JVF coaching staff will determine whether to advance the applicant for additional consideration.

JVF coaches will also continue identifying and directly recruiting prospective student-athletes throughout the fall. Recruited athletes must complete the same scholarship application and admissions process. Scholarship offers may be extended at any point during the admissions cycle. Families are encouraged to apply early because roster availability is limited.

Built for the Serious Student-Athlete

The JVF Dragons are designed for student-athletes who want field hockey to become a central part of their athletic journey. Our program serves athletes who aspire to compete at the collegiate level, welcome being challenged, and want to develop as players, students, teammates, and leaders.

JVF scholarship recipients receive:

High-level field hockey training and player development

Individual development plans and measurable performance benchmarks

Competition at events including NITS, the Yale Series, Regional Club Championships, and college showcases

Year-round mentorship and athlete support

Personalized college recruiting guidance for athletes and families

Assistance with film, coach communication, recruiting strategy, and identification clinics

Academic support initiatives, including SAT preparation

Leadership and community-service opportunities

A competitive culture centered on accountability, discipline, growth, and teamwork

The 2027 program will begin with winter training in January before transitioning into the spring competition schedule.

The JVF Experience

As the JVF Dragons open admissions for the upcoming season, we aren’t just offering a spot on a roster, we are welcoming the next generation into a culture built on character, equity, and elite development. For six years, our mission has been simple: provide serious athletes with top-tier coaching, training at premier facilities like Yale University, and exposure to national showcase stages, all on full club scholarships.

We prepare our players to compete against experienced opponents with disciplined defense, unselfish play, and unmatched grit.

We also prepare them to play at the next level.

Eight members of our 2026 Senior class are now moving forward to compete across the NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III levels.

At JVF, a fully funded program means your child gets exposure, elite competition, and a real, undeniable bridge to college field hockey based entirely on their talent and work ethic.

One Team, One Commitment

Athletes who accept a JVF scholarship are expected to represent the Dragons as their field hockey club during the scholarship season. JVF athletes may not simultaneously compete for another field hockey club while participating in the program.

Training, competing, traveling, and developing together allows our athletes to build the chemistry and trust required to succeed. Protecting that continuity is essential to the experience we promise every player and family.

Two Scholarship Teams in 2027

JVF plans to field two competitive scholarship teams during the 2027 season.

The final age composition of those teams will be determined by the strength of the applicant pool, positional needs, athlete readiness, and the long-term developmental goals of the program. Student-athletes between the ages of 13 and 17 are encouraged to apply.

Because the recruiting landscape changes significantly during the later years of high school, older applicants should demonstrate a sustained commitment to competitive field hockey and a clear intention to pursue the sport at the collegiate level. Every roster position will be awarded deliberately. The objective is not to build the largest program possible. It is to assemble two connected, competitive teams composed of athletes who fit the mission, culture, and future of JVF Dragons Field Hockey.
